Hair Growth Support
Provider-guided hair solutions for people who want to support fuller-looking hair and maintain the hair they have. Onsavo connects you with independent, state-licensed providers who review your information through telemedicine and, when clinically appropriate, may prescribe a treatment plan suited to your situation.
Onsavo is a self-pay telemedicine platform operated by [ONSAVO LEGAL ENTITY]. Onsavo is not a medical practice or a pharmacy. Independent providers affiliated with [AFFILIATED MEDICAL GROUP] make all clinical decisions, and prescribing is at the provider's sole discretion. Prescriptions, when written, are dispensed by our partner pharmacy, [COMPOUNDING PHARMACY].
What Provider-Guided Hair Support Can Help With
Hair thinning and shedding are common, and they have many possible causes. A provider-guided plan starts with understanding your hair and health history so the provider can suggest options that may be a reasonable fit for you.
Depending on the provider's evaluation, options may include treatments that aim to:
- Help support the appearance of fuller-looking hair over time
- Help maintain the hair you currently have
- Support a daily hair-care routine alongside any prescribed treatment
Hair treatments are not right for everyone, and not every plan will be appropriate for your situation. The provider will discuss what may help, what to expect, and any concerns specific to you.
FDA-Approved vs. Compounded Options
Some hair treatments use FDA-approved active ingredients, and some are compounded. It is important to understand the difference before you start.
FDA-approved ingredients. Certain widely used hair treatments contain active ingredients that are FDA-approved, such as minoxidil and finasteride. When a provider prescribes a product made with these ingredients in an FDA-approved form, that product has been reviewed by the FDA for safety and effectiveness for its approved use.
Compounded options. In some cases, a provider may determine that a compounded formulation is appropriate for you. Compounded medications are prepared by a pharmacy to a provider's specifications and may combine ingredients or use formulations that are not available as a standard FDA-approved product.
For any compounded product:
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not been reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or quality.
The provider and pharmacy will tell you whether a specific treatment in your plan is FDA-approved or compounded so you can make an informed decision.
How It Works
- Complete your online intake. Share your hair history, health background, current medications, and goals.
- Provider review by telemedicine. An independent, state-licensed provider affiliated with [AFFILIATED MEDICAL GROUP] reviews your information. If needed, the provider may ask follow-up questions or request additional information.
- A plan, if clinically appropriate. If the provider determines a hair treatment is appropriate for you, they may prescribe one. Prescribing is at the provider's sole discretion, and a prescription is not guaranteed.
- Dispensing. Any prescribed medication is dispensed by our partner pharmacy, [COMPOUNDING PHARMACY], and shipped to you.
- Ongoing support. Your plan can be adjusted over time based on follow-up with your provider.
Consultation Required
A consultation is required before any treatment. No medication is prescribed or shipped without a provider first reviewing your intake through telemedicine. The provider may decide that a hair treatment is not appropriate for you, or may recommend that you follow up with your own clinician for further evaluation.
Eligibility
To be considered for provider-guided hair support through Onsavo, you generally must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be physically located in one of the states we serve at the time of your visit ([STATES SERVED])
- Complete the required intake and any requested follow-up
- Be able to receive care by telemedicine, in the provider's judgment
Eligibility for any specific treatment is determined by the provider based on your individual health information. Some people will not be eligible, and meeting these criteria does not mean a treatment will be prescribed.
Risks and Possible Side Effects
All medications carry risks, and hair treatments are no exception. Possible side effects depend on the specific treatment and ingredients and may include:
- Scalp irritation, dryness, itching, redness, or flaking with topical products
- Unwanted hair growth in areas where a topical product spreads or is applied
- Changes in hair shedding, including a temporary increase, especially early in treatment
- Headache, dizziness, or changes in blood pressure with some ingredients
- With finasteride and similar ingredients: possible effects on sexual function, mood, or other systemic effects, some of which may persist
- Allergic reactions to an active or inactive ingredient
This is not a complete list. Some treatments are not appropriate during pregnancy, while trying to become pregnant, or while breastfeeding. Tell your provider about all health conditions, medications, and supplements you use. If you experience a serious reaction or symptoms that concern you, seek medical care promptly. Your provider will review the specific risks of any treatment they consider for you.
Individual Results Vary
Hair treatments work differently for different people. Some people may notice changes over a period of months, some may see little or no change, and results are not guaranteed for anyone. Many hair treatments need to be continued to maintain any effect, and changes may not last after stopping. Your provider can help you set realistic expectations for your situation.
